Woodrow Wilson Dixon went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April19, 2011, after fighting a very courageous battle for sixmonths.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 22, at StringerFuneral Home in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be Thursday from 5until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born July 4, 1917, in Claiborne County. By trade, he was apipe fitter in New Orleans. Mr. Dixon moved to Barlow (CopiahCounty) in 1946 along with his wife, Cleo. He was a successfulcattleman, land investor and farmer.

Mr. Dixon and Cleo owned and operated the W.W. Dixon GeneralMerchandise Store in Barlow for 30 years. He was a Mason, a memberof the Cattleman’s Association and very active in communityactivities.

Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. ChurchDick Dixon, and his loving wife of 47 years, Cleo StrongDixon.

Survivors are his son, Charles W. Dixon and wife, Bette, ofBrookhaven; two daughters, Carolyn Smith and husband, Skip, ofHazlehurst, and Darlene Johnston of Dentville; five grandchildren,Todd Smith and wife, Mary, of Starkville; Allison D. Ingram andhusband, Jim, of Birmingham; Bradd Smith of Hazlehurst; Clark Dixonof Barlow; and Natalie Johnston of Starkville. Sixgreat-granddaughters: Anna, Madeline and Ellie Ingram ofBirmingham; and Carly, Camille and Sadie Smith of Starkville.

The family wishes to thank his dear friend and doctor, FredMcDonald, for personal attention and devotion over the years, alongwith the nursing and therapy staff at Hardy Wilson MemorialHospital for their outstanding care and love; close friend BobbyDole, as well as Estelle Ashley, caretaker Bebe and Sis Martin forher uncanny ability to provide Mr. Woodrow with unusual culinarydelights – turnip roots, tomatoes, meat and gravy – don’t forgetthe vinegar!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made toyour favorite charity in memory of a very giving man, Mr. WoodrowDixon or Pappaw.
