McClendon’s slam lifts Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats rallied to sweep theSacred Heart Crusaders from the second round of the state playoffsin MSHAA 1A baseball action Saturday.
The Bobcats captured the series when Colton McClendon hit agrand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh inning thatvaulted Bogue Chitto to a 13-11 win over the Crusaders.
“This was a huge win for us,” said BC coach Jody Britt. “Theguys did a great job fighting back to win the series.”
In Friday’s action, the Bobcats escaped Hattiesburg with 5-3victory over Sacred Heart in eight innings of work.
Bogue Chitto (20-6) will advance to the third round of the stateplayoffs and face the winner of the French Camp/Sebastopol series,starting Friday. The game time and locations are undetermined.

Michael Martin, on a short time of rest, pitched the win as acloser for Bogue Chitto, collecting one strikeout and no walks.Zach Avants (1K, 4BB) pitched three innings as the starter. BriceRoberts (2K, 1BB) pitched in relief for three innings.
Reese Blackburn came on in the seventh inning to collect thefinal out. He absorbed the loss for the Crusaders with nostrikeouts and no walks.
Blake Moore (3K, 2BB) was the starter. Nolan Mixon (0K, 4BB)pitched in relief.
McClendon provided the offensive spark for the Bobcats with ahome run, two singles plus four stole bases. Garrett Wallace andBrice Roberts smashed a home run apiece. Kevin Brothern beltedthree singles. Shiloh Martin contributed a double. Hitting safelywere Hunter Ginn and Reid Bales.
Lucas Hinton was the leader on offense for the Crusaders withtwo home runs. Marshall Parrish provided a home run and twosingles. Jacob Mercier belted a home run and a single. Ty Hugheshad a double and a single. Paul Moreno hit three singles. StephenGarcia ripped two singles. Blake Moore had a single.

On Friday, Martin was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats as hepitched a complete game, collecting 14 strikeouts and seven walks.Hughes suffered the loss for Sacred Heart with four strikeouts andone walk.
Brice Roberts produced the offensive firepower for Bogue Chittowith a home run. Brock Roberts provided ammunition with twosingles. Avants, Bales, Brothern, Martin and Wallace hitsafely.
Moore was the offensive leader for the Crusaders with a doubleand a single. Hitting safely were Hughes and Mixon.
