Taylorsville squeezes past Enterprise

TAYLORVILLE – The Taylorsville Lady Tartars edged the EnterpriseLady Yellow Jackets 4-2 Thursday night in the first game of thequarterfinals in the best-of-three series of the MHSAA Class 2Asoftball state playoffs.

“This was a good game between two strong teams,” said Enterprisecoach Charissa Burke. “We just came up short at the end. Now, wemust regroup and get ready to win two games on Saturday.”

The Lady Jackets (16-6) resume action Saturday hosting the LadyTartars (21-5) for a possible doubleheader. The first game beginsat 2 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will immediately follow.

Taylorsville 4, Enterprise 2

The Lady Tartars quickly jumped on the Lady Jackets, scoring theirfirst run in the first inning. Enterprise answered back in thethird inning with 2 runs and took a brief lead. Taylorsville foughtback in the bottom of the third by scoring 3 runs to regain thelead and held off the Lady Jackets for the win.

Kaci Bryant was the winning pitcher for the Lady Tartars with fivestrikeouts and five walks. Hannah Moak suffered the setback forEnterprise with five strikeouts and five walks.

Karla Beth Hux was the offensive leader for the Lady Jackets with a2-run home run. Hitting safely were Taylor Nelson, Ashley Boyd andHannah Moak.

Keni May produced the offensive firepower for Taylorsville with adouble. CoCoa Bender provided ammunition with two singles. CassidyLeblanc, Macy Hegwood and Nicole Jernigan hit safely.
