BOGUE CHITTO – The defending state champion Bogue Chitto LadyCats crushed Nanih Waiya 10-0 in five-innings to eliminate the LadyWarriors in two games of the best of 3 series in the quarterfinalsof the MHSAA Class 1A state softball playoffs, Friday night.

“We played another great game,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “Our base running was the main factor for us winning thegame. The girls hit the ball well and played good defense. Toy(Smith) pitched a good game for us.”

The Lady Cats (19-7) advance to the South State finals to battlethe Sebastopol Lady Bobcats. Bogue Chitto travels to SebastopolThursday to play at 6 p.m. The Lady Cats return home for a possibledoubleheader Saturday beginning at 5 p.m.

The Sebastopol Lady Bobcats eliminated the Cathedral Lady GreenWave from the playoffs Saturday, winning 9-7 in nine innings.

The Lady Warrior, coached by Jennifer Holdiness, concluded theirseason with a 17-13 worksheet.

“We have a good group of girls,” said Holdiness. “I am extremelyproud of the season we had. But we still have a lot of work to doto get better.”

The Lady Cats looked ready before the start of the game to put awaythe Lady Warriors early and turn their attention to defending theirSouth State title against the next opponent.

Bogue Chitto quickly took advantage of Nanih Waiya’s walks andmiscues through out the game scoring two runs in the second inning.The Lady Cats added one run in the third, exploded for five runs inthe fourth and ended the game with two runs in the fifth.

Senior Toy Smith (0K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher, tossing a3-hitter for Bogue Chitto. Ryan Holdiness absorbed the loss for theLady Warriors, as the starting pitcher, collecting one strikeoutand three walks in two innings of work.

Brantlie Sheets, the losing pitcher from Game 1 Thursday night,pitched three innings in relief for Nanih Waiya. She collected onestrikeout and five walks.

“Bogue Chitto has a very good team,” continued Holdiness. “They didthe things they needed to win.”

Rheagan Welch provided the offensive firepower for the Lady Catswith two singles. Senior catcher Darcy Miller contributedammunition with a double. Hitting safely were Mattie Avants and ToySmith.

Nanih Waiya was led offensively with three hits, which weresingles, from Laken Fulcher, Reagan Holdiness and Kara LaneNowell.
