BC girls packing for 1A state finals

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats captured their secondstraight South State 1A crown Saturday night by defeatingSebastopol 7-4 to eliminate the Lady Bobcats from the softballplayoffs. The Lady Cats had won a 1-0 squeaker at SebastopolThursday night.

“The girls played a great game,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “We are very excited about going back to Ridgeland to playfor another state championship. I would like to thank God forblessing us and the girls with this opportunity.”

Bogue Chitto (21-7) returns to Ridgeland as they seek to repeat asstate champions. The Lady Cats captured the State 1A gold lastyear. They will face the winner of the Wheeler/West Union series atFreedom Ridge Park Friday, May 20, at 6 p.m. for Game 1. Games 2and 3 will be played on Saturday, May 21 beginning at 10 a.m.

Sebastopol, coached by Wayne Wilson, concludes its season with a22-4 worksheet.

Bogue Chitto 7, Sebastopol 4

The Lady Cats broke loose from a seesaw battle in the third inningas they captured a 4-3 lead over Sebastopol. Bogue Chitto would addone run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.

Sebastopol tried to rally in the seventh inning as seniorcenterfielder Cyndel Webb hit a solo home run. But Sebastopol couldnot come any closer because of the strong defense of BogueChitto.

Senior right-hander Toy Smith was the winning pitcher for the LadyCats with three strikeouts and six walks, allowing threehits.

Senior Taylor Shuler suffered the loss for Sebastopol with nostrikeouts and six walks. She gave up eight hits.

Josie Porter and Adrienne Wallace were the offensive leaders forBogue Chitto with a double and a single apiece. Hitting safely wereMattie Avants, Darcy Miller, Rheagan Welch and Toy Smith.

Webb was the leader on offense for Sebastopol with a home run.Josie Greene and Lacey Hedrick record the other two hits, whichwere singles for the Lady Bobcats who gained a 3-3 deadlock in thesecond inning.
