Anyone who questions the dedication and resolve of LincolnCounty’s volunteer firefighters need look no further than Monday’sfire at Phillips Bark Processing to see the important role the menand women play in the protection of lives and property.
Heuck’s Retreat’s David Case epitomizes the volunteer firefighterspirit. Case responded to the fire as he was getting off workMonday around 6 p.m., spent hours on the scene into the nightbattling the blaze with his fellow firefighters and then returnedto his “day job” the next morning.
Case was not alone in answering Monday’s call for help. Volunteersfrom all eight county departments – East Lincoln, Heuck’s Retreat,Hog Chain, New Sight, Zetus, Loyd Star, Bogue Chitto and Ruth -responded to blaze along with Brookhaven firefighters and volunteerfirefighters from several surrounding communities.
Volunteer firefighters do what they do out of a sense of communityspirit and a desire to help their neighbors. The value of theirservice was on display Monday for all to see and be thankful forfirefighters’ willingness to answer the call for help.
