Funeral services for Arthur L. Simmers Jr.,of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Monday, June 27, at First UnitedMethodist Church in Brookhaven with burial in Riverwood MemorialPark. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge ofarrangements.

    Visitation is Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service atthe church.

    Mr. Simmers, 87, died June 18, 2011, in Brookhaven. He was born inPennsylvania on Jan. 19, 1924, to Arthur L. Simmers Sr. andMargaret McDonald Simmers.

    He was a retired industrial chief engineer and a member of FirstUnited Methodist Church. He married his wife, Jean Morse WatsonSimmers, in 1946.

    Preceding him in death was his wife of more than 60 years.

    Survivors are his adopted son, Tetsuo Okuyama and wife, FumikoOkuyama; his nephew, Robert Simmers; his nieces, Donna SimmersMertz, Caroline Watson Cheek, Becky Fox and Cookie Watson Williams;other nieces and nephews; his grandchild, Yuko Okuyama Terasaki;and two great-grandchildren.

    Memorials or gifts may be made to Penn State University EngineeringDepartment, Illinois Railway Museum or First United MethodistChurch.
