Mrs. Mary Louise Brister Burns died at theUniversity of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Saturdayevening, July 16, 2011. Mrs. Burns was born in Lincoln County onJuly 17, 1929, to Effie Reeves and Bias B. Brister. She was agraduate of the Brookhaven schools, Mississippi College, and JohnsHopkins University. For many years she was the Director of NursingService at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Brookhaven. Mrs. Burnswas a member and former Regent of the Old Brook Chapter of theDaughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames of theSeventeenth Century, Clan Gregor, and the First Families ofMississippi. She was a life member of the Junior Auxillary, and apast member of the Willing Hearts Circle of the Climbers Club. Shewas a member of the First United Methodist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; M.L.Brister, and Wylie C. Brister.

    She is survived by her husband; Dr. Russel Burns; her son, JohnBrister Burns and his wife, Rebecca of Nashville, Tenn.; hersister, Mrs. John O’Flaherty of Napa, Calif.; her sisters-in-law,Mrs. Irene Lofton Brister of Brookhaven, and Mrs. Nell ReevesBrister of Tifton, Ga.; her two nephews, one niece, and a host ofcousins and great nieces and nephews.

    Visitation was from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, atthe Brookhaven Funeral Home on North Jackson Street, with gravesideservices in Rose Hill Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.
