Funeral services for Essie Mae FosterMeyers, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, at RiverwoodFamily Funeral Service Chapel with burial in Bogue ChittoCemetery.
Mrs. Meyers, 91, died Aug. 11, 2011. She was born in New Hebron onDec. 11, 1919, to James Monroe Foster and Jessie Allie MorrisFoster.
She had served as secretary for Bogue Chitto High School and was amember of First Baptist Church in Brookhaven. She was also a memberof the Home Demonstration Club, the Bogue Chitto Garden Club, BogueChitto Cemetery Association, and pianist for Bogue Chitto BaptistChurch for many years. She also taught Sunday school.
After moving to Brookhaven, she became a member of First BaptistChurch, where she served faithfully for many years in many areas.She was an active member of the Ruth Sunday school class, theJohn-Nell Smith Women on Missions Circle, and the senior adultgroup, the LLL. She was discipleship training secretary, hostess atthe Wednesday night suppers, and on the library staff.
Mrs. Meyers volunteered to help any time the church became ashelter for hurricane victims, and she was a helper wherever therewas a need. She was a member of the King’s Daughters Medical CenterAuxiliary for many years, where she volunteered with the GiftShoppe and juice carts. She was also a member of the Willing HeartsCircle and a member and tour guide for the 50+ Travel Club out ofJackson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of yourchoice in her memory.
Preceding her in death was her husband, J.J. Meyers; her parents;her brothers, Grady Foster, J.M. Foster, Delton Foster, and EarlFoster; and her sisters, Eunice Hall, Audrey Hutson, VirginiaSandifer, and her twin, Elsie R. Smith.
Survivors are her daughters, Janet Lynn Meyers Wallace and husband,Don M. Wallace, of Bogue Chitto, and Gloria Ann Meyers, of Ft.Lauderdale, Fla.; and her brothers, Paul Foster and Clayton Foster,both of Natchez.
