Walter P. Miller Jr. died Saturday, Aug.13, 2011, at the Promise Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 71.

    He was born in Brookhaven and lived most of his life in Jackson. Hewas a graduate of Mississippi State University and was a schoolteacher in Florence, retiring after 30 years of teaching. Hebelonged to the Central Mississippi Bulldog Club, the PelahatchieMen’s Social Club and attended Lula Baptist Church.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. Jr. andWilhelmina Gruchy Miller; and his brother, William Miller.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy B. Miller, of Jackson; hisdaughter, Stephanie Austin and husband, Dr. Joe Austin, ofVicksburg; his brother, Jim Miller, of Magnolia; five nephews; andtwo grandchildren, Morgan Austin and Paxton Austin.

    Funeral services will be 4 p.m. on Monday at the Glenwood FuneralHome Chapel in Vicksburg with the Rev. Joe Little officiating.Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery inVicksburg.

    Visitation will be 2 p.m. on Monday until the hour of theservice.

    Pallbearers will be Sam Newman, Kevin Magee, Robin Carter, JohnnyCarter, Grey Breeden and Keith Paxton.

    Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg is in charge ofarrangements.
