Woman dies after Thursday auto mishap

A two-vehicle accident on Highway 84Thursday afternoon left a Brookhaven woman dead and another personwith minor injuries, according to Brookhaven and Lincoln Countyofficials.

    Kathyln P. Turnage, 91, of 435 McNair Ave., was driving her 1992Lincoln town car on an access road in front of the MississippiHighway Patrol office around 1:18 p.m. When she turned right ontothe highway to go east, she pulled out in front of a 2008 FordF-150 pickup traveling eastbound on the highway, according toBrookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson.

    The pickup hit Turnage’s car on the driver’s side door and wastraveling about 50 mph, according to the police report.

    Turnage was taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center(KDMC) emergency room where she was pronounced dead, said LincolnCounty Coroner Clay McMorris.

    “She died of internal bodily injuries,” McMorris said.

    The driver of the pickup was John Graves, who was traveling fromBaton Rouge, La., with his wife Rhonda in the passenger seat.Rhonda Graves was also taken to KDMC for treatment for minorinjuries.

    The impact from the collision left Turnage trapped inside her car,and Brookhaven Fire Department firefighters had to use the Jaws ofLife to cut open the driver’s side door to free her, according toFire Chief Tony Weeks.
