Funeral services for Linda Rasberry Monroe,of Brookhaven, are 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at First BaptistChurch in Brookhaven with burial at Garden of Memories in Florenceto follow at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookhaven Funeral Home onNatchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Monday from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the church.

    Mrs. Monroe, 55, died Aug. 19, 2011, at the University ofMississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was born in Jackson onFeb. 21, 1956, to Robert Rasberry and Nancy Marshall Rasberry.

    She was a resident of Brookhaven for 23 years. She faithfullyserved in the youth ministry of First Baptist Church in manycapacities. She ministered to and with junior high and senior highgirls. She taught Sunday school, was a small groups leader, acounselor for summer camp, and a devoted “Super Summer” leader.

    Linda was also involved with the missions efforts in La Nariz,Mexico, where she shared Christ with numerous children and adults.On any given Saturday in January, you would find Linda organizingand overseeing the Upward Basketball League, an organization sheloved and knew would share the love of Jesus to everyone in thecommunity.

    She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education fromMississippi College in Clinton in 1978, where she was a member ofthe Lady Choctaws women’s basketball team and the Nenamoosha SocialTribe. She attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary,where she earned a Master of Christian Education degree.

    For the past seven years, Linda taught journalism at BrookhavenHigh School and served as the advisor to the “Ole Brook” yearbookand the “Panther Prints” newspaper.

    She was a loving mother who always put her children first. Theworld stopped when Matt and Audrey needed her. Their relationshipwith the Lord was her first priority. She spent every availablemoment with her granddaughter, Mailey Kate, and would tell anyonewho asked, “there’s nothing like a grandchild.”

    Preceding her in death were her parents.

    Survivors are her children, Audrey Monroe Young and husband, Lane,and Matt Monroe and wife, Dondie, all of Brookhaven; hergranddaughter, Mailey Kate Young, of Brookhaven; her brother, KevinRasberry and wife, Sandie, of Florence, her aunt, Janie Hughes, ofMadison; two cousins; one niece; and two nephews.
