Funeral services for Leo Allen, of Jackson,formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., are 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at St.James M.B. Church, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. WilliamsMortuary is in charge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.Family visitation hour will be from 6 until 7 p.m. on Friday.

    Leo Allen, formerly of Brooklyn, was born Aug. 19, 1926, inMagnolia to the late Rev. I.A. and Anna (Brumfield) Allen.

    He was united in marriage to Rosie Lee Porter in the 1950s. To thisunion no children were born.

    As a young man, Leo joined Rose Hill M.B. Church in 1942, under thepastoral leadership of the late Rev. Solomon Varnado. Years later,he moved to Brooklyn where he united with Cornerstone M.B. Church,under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Sandy S.Raye.

    After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Leo graduatedin 1950 from Rose Hill High School, in Pike County. He laterattended community college in Brooklyn.

    A man who was pristine in his dress, Leo worked as a departmentclerk and United Parcel Service security cop for many years. Duringhis tenure with UPS, he received many employee awards.

    A man of few words, he believed in honesty. All who knew him trulyenjoyed his presence. For health reasons, Leo moved to Mississippito live with his twin sister in 2007. He often talked about ourfamily life in Magnolia.

    Leo departed his earthly life on Aug. 20, 2011, the day aftercelebrating his 85th birthday with his twin sister. His demise wasmet at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

    He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clark Allen;one sister, Earnestine (Allen) Peters; and two nephews.

    Cherishing his memory are his devoted twin sister, Leona (Allen)Dow; his niece, Pat “The Boss” Dow, both of Brookhaven, who visitedhim twice weekly; a sister, Josephine Taylor, of Magnolia; onestepson, six nieces, six nephews and a host of cousins andfriends.
