Margarette Ellen Byrd Yates

Margarette Ellen Byrd Yates, 90, a residentof McComb, died Sept. 1, 2011, at Camellia Estates following abrief illness.

    She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Geneva, Ala. She was the daughterof Perry Thomas and Della Cherry Byrd.

    Following World War I, her family moved to Wesson. Margarette wasreared in Wesson and attended Wesson High School and Copiah-LincolnJunior College. After attending Co-Lin she was employed by theOffice of Price Administration in Hazlehurst during World War II.She also served the Copiah school system as home economist. She metand married Weldon Hugh Yates, her husband of 36 years.

    Margarette and her husband lived in Baton Rogue where he wasemployed by Illinois Central Railroad. After his retirement theymoved to McComb. Mrs. Yates was a very faithful member of CentralBaptist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher for many years.She served as a Pink Lady at Southwest Mississippi Regional MedicalCenter for 27 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmotherand will be missed by the many who knew her.

    She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon H.Yates; her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Elizabeth Moak andJames Vernon Moak.

    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Weldon Yatesand Beverly Le Blanc Yates; two grandchildren and their spouses,Ron and Robin Yates and Brandi and Leslie Davis; threegreat-grandchildren, Colton Yates, Elizabeth Yates and SpencerDavis; a brother and sister-in-law, Malford T. Byrd and LouiseByrd, of Wesson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Visitation is Sunday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb from6 until 8 p.m. and Monday at Central Baptist Church from 1 untilservices at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Randall Griffin officiating.Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

    Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
