BC spoils Ole Brook Sr. Night

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats rallied in theseventh inning to score 5 runs and spoiled Senior Night with 8-6victory over the Brookhaven Lady Panthers Thursday in slowpitchsoftball action.

    “The girls managed to step up late in the game to get the hitsneeded to win,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “We need to play withthis intensity from here on out.”

    Bogue Chitto received good news Thursday night that they will enterthe MHSAA playoffs as the No. 2 seed of Region 7-1A after theStringer Lady Red Devils eliminated the West Lincoln Lady Bearswith a 5-1 victory.

    “We are extremely proud to make the playoffs again,” continuedLeggett.

    Bogue Chitto is the current defending State 1A slowpitch softballchampion.

    The Lady Cats (10-10, 2-2) and Lady Panthers (15-6, 10-2) resumeaction Saturday as they participate in the Ole Brook softballtournament.    

    Brookhaven will tangle with the Wesson Cobras and BC battles theLawrence County Lady Cougars in the opening game at the Hansel KingSportsplex beginning at 9 a.m.

    The Lady Cats surged back to outscore the Lady Panthers 8-4 in thelast three innings and managed to hold off Brookhaven’s attempt torally for the victory.

    Kerri McGehee was the winning pitcher for Bogue Chitto with onestrikeout and no walks.

    Brooke Hosick suffered the setback for the Lady Panthers with nostrikeouts and no walks.

    Christian Black provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Catswith three singles. Earlneshia Dillon, Marshonikique Blackwell andColby Kirkland fueled the flames with two singles apiece. Hittingsafely were Adrienne Wallace, Rheagan Welch, Mallori Allen andMcGehee.

    Shelby Peavey was the offensive leader at the plate for Brookhavenwith two singles. Taylor Murray contributed a triple. ChristenBenson ripped a double. Erica Bridwell, Emily Freeman and ShelbyCase hit safely.

    “We had the opportunities at the end and we couldn’t take advantageof them,” said Brookhaven coach Chad Walker.

    In JV action, the Lady Panthers prevailed 4-3 over the Lady Cats asAllycen Speaks (2K, 4BB) pitched the win for Brookhaven.

    Brook Myers (2K, 3BB) absorbed the setback as the pitcher for BogueChitto.

    Speaks provided the offensive charge at the plate for the LadyPanthers with two singles. Hitting safely were Ivy Smith, CheyanneSmith, Julianna Porter, Danielle Batiste, Jada Henderson and MadylnGonzalez.

    Black was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats with a double anda single. Dillon contributed a double. Lauren Wallace, CherieSavoie and Myers hit safely.
