Registering to vote first step in election process

While we are on the subject of voting, nowwould be an excellent time for citizens to sign up to vote.

    Oct. 8 is the last day for people to register to vote to beeligible to participate in the Nov. 8 general election. The circuitclerk’s office will be open until noon that Saturday for thoseneeding to register.

    To qualify to register to vote, you must be at least 18 years ofage and have lived in the county for at least 30 days. That’s all,there are no tests to take or fees to pay in order to be able toexercise one of the most cherished freedoms U.S. citizens have.

    On a related note, anyone who has moved to a new residence sincethe last election should take a moment and re-register with theclerk’s office. Doing so will help ensure correct precinctpopulation totals and that everyone is voting where they should bevoting.

    Like the act of voting itself, registering to vote is a simpleprocess that takes only a few minutes. First register and then govote when the opportunity arises.
