Co-Lin rallies to escape East Central

     DECATUR – QuarterbackChandler Rogers hit Alonzo Lewis with a 16-yard touchdown pass andNolan Long’s point after an attempt to split the uprights with 3:35left in the game to give the Co-Lin Wolfpack a 7-6 win over theEast Central Warriors (1-7, 0-5) in the final South Divisioncontest of the season.

    The Wolfpack (4-4, 2-4) will host No. 16 Northeast Mississippi onThursday, Oct. 27 in their final game of the season. Wear pink andshow your support for Breast Cancer Awareness on KDMC night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

    It was a slugfest between both defenses through the first threequarters as the offenses were stalled.

    In the first quarter, Co-Lin defensive back Bryan Isaac recovered aWarrior fumble at the East Central 16-yard line. But Co-Lin wasunable to advance the ball and Nolan Long’s 34-yard field goalattempt was wide right.

    The Co-Lin defense held and forced East Central to punt out oftheir own end zone. Punter Rob Moffitt’s 36-yard punt would setCo-Lin up at the Warrior 29 yard line. The Warrior defense wouldcome up big again as they held the Wolfpack offense on fourth andtwo with 13:30 left in the second quarter.

    East Central broke the scoreless tie with 14:05 left in the fourthquarter. Warrior quarterback Jesse Blakemore hit KeiVondre Watforda 42-yard touchdown. Co-Lin’s Terrell Hartsfield broke through theline to block Jacob Carpenter’s extra point attempt and theWarriors led 6-0.

    Co-Lin’s DeVante Scott took the ensuing kickoff 55 yards to theEast Central 30 and the Wolfpack looked to be in business; but onthe second play from scrimmage, a fumble ended the drive.

    On fourth down with 7:47 left in the game the Wolfpack lined up topunt. The snap came to short man Jerry McNair who rambled 24 yardsfor a first down and the drive would continue.

    The Co-Lin offense drove the ball down to the East Central 9-yardline. On third and six, the snap would dribble past Rogers whocovered the ball at the East Central 16. On fourth down, Rogershooked up with the 6’4″ Lewis as he out jumped East Centraldefensive Ben Brooks in the end zone for the winning touchdown.

    Co-Lin finished the game with 238 yards of total offense. Rogerscompleted 15 of 26 passes for 140 yards and 1 touchdown. Scottcaught 5 passes for 46 yards. Co-Lin’s rushing duo, Joel Davis andDanny Hobbs, had 60 and 44 yards respectively.

    The Wolfpack defense held East Central to 28 rushing yards.Blakemore was 8 of 14 for 91 yards and 1 touchdown.
