Price scores 21 for Bears; Lady Bears fall to N. Pike

Senior forward De Price pumped in agame-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as West Lincoln hadfive players in double figures to help the Bears crush the NorthPike Jaguars 82-49 Thursday night in Jack Case Gymnasium.

    In the varsity girls’ game, North Pike used their speed and size tothump the Lady Bears 52-28.

    West Lincoln resumes action Saturday as they will host Brookhavenfor three games. Tipoff begins with the junior varsity boys at 2p.m. before the varsity girls’ game gets under way at 3.Immediately following is the boys’ game.

North Pike 52, West Lincoln28

    North Pike center Kaylan Hughes led the Lady Jaguars (2-1) with 15points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Precious Jefferson contributed 10points and 4 rebounds.

    “We played really well defensively,” said North Pike coach LanceGolmon. “We managed to take West Lincoln out of their game planearlier. West Lincoln is young team, but is very well coached.Overall, I was very pleased with my girls’ effort in the secondhalf.”

    Katie Hester was the leading scorer for the Lady Bears (0-3) with10 points. Tamasha Buckley provided 9 points.

    “North Pike has some size,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young.”Coach Golmon benched his usual starters for discipline reasons inthe first quarter, but they made the difference in the rest of thegame. Overall, our girls played hard, but we need to stop ourturnovers.”

West Lincoln 82, North Pike49

    Lucas Burris and Darrius Clark provided assistance to the Bears'(3-0) win with 11 points apiece. Jared Case and Duane Marshallchipped in with 10 points apiece. Burris and Marshall helped out onthe boards with 7 each. Case collected 8 steals.

    “We played real sloppy in the first half,” said Young. “We managedto settle down in the third quarter and played a lot better. Ourbench played really well tonight.”

    Donavon James led the Jaguars (1-1) with  9 points. Vernon Butler and LadariusConey contributed 7 points apiece.

    “We are not what we think we are,” said North Pike Keith Russ.”West Lincoln outhustled us totally throughout the game.”

    In JV action, the Jaguars captured a 40-29 victory over WestLincoln as Jalen Jackson scored 14 points to lead North Pike.

    LeKeith Ward drained 11 points to lead the Bears. Larontae Byrdprovided 8 points.
