Funeral services for Alice Ree Cupit, ofBrookhaven, are 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Friendship BaptistChurch, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Homeon Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Cupit, 91, died Nov. 21, 2011, at her home, surrounded by herloved ones. She was born in Lincoln County on May 25, 1920, toBennie Smith and Alma Vaughan Smith.

    She graduated from Loyd Star High School and retired from theLincoln-Lawrence-Franklin Regional Library where she worked for 59years. She drove the Book Mobile to the rural children of thecommunities where she touched many children’s lives. Afterretiring, she enjoyed traveling to 48 different states. Mrs. Cupitwas a lifetime member of Friendship Baptist Church and taughtSunday School for 65 years. She also held the position of churchclerk for 45 years.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James L. Cupit;and brother, Marrell “Shorty” Smith.

    Survivors are her daughter, Mary Frances Cupit, of Brookhaven;sisters-in-law, Para Lee Smith and Lela Cupit; nephews, RonaldSmith and wife, Ann, and Keith Smith and wife, Sue; honorarygranddaughters, Cassie Smith Case and husband, Karsten, and MaggieSmith Woolley and husband, Clay; honorary grandsons, Jacob Case,Kade Case, Layton Woolley and Macel Woolley; and a host of greatand great-great-nieces and nephews.

    Mrs. Cupit’s family gives a special thanks to her wonderfulcaregivers and family, Vanessa Smith, Helen Woods and the HospiceMinistries Staff.

    The family requests donations be made to the Friendship BaptistChurch Cemetery Fund, 2256 Zetus Road, Brookhaven, MS.
