At first my husband Dennis was trekking to the woods with his handybow and arrow. Now that gun season has opened, I think he’s beenonly once or twice, but he has big plans for his next days off.

Several years ago, I wrote about Dennis’ antics in the woods andhow he had not killed a deer in 10 years. Yes, I said 10 years, andyes, I received a lot of ribbing for telling that little fact.

I mostly received some dressing down by men, who told me “you justdon’t tell people that.” Well, oops … I said it again.

Actually, after I wrote that little bit of information a couple ofyears ago, Dennis promptly went out and killed a deer. A few dayslater he killed another and then a week or so later another. Inall, I think he harvested three or four deer that year.

He called my faux pas column his good-luck column. He’s beenbegging me to write another one for the past two years, since hehasn’t killed anything since that year except time.

This year he decided to go high-tech on the deer. He purchased twoor three more motion sensor cameras and put them out where hethought deer would be traveling.

He also purchased three or four more deer stands. I asked him whatdid he need with four deer stands, since he could only hunt on oneat a time. He said they would be in place so he could changelocations when he wanted to without moving the stands.

But back to the cameras. He’s been making weekly and twice-weeklytrips to the woods just to check the cameras. As luck would haveit, he has captured some pretty good images on some them – ofhimself, putting the cameras up and taking them down.

He had been taking his old laptop computer out to the stands toupload his pictures, but it was slow and antiquated. So for ouranniversary, he decided to buy me a new iPad 2, so he could have myiPad. I told him I didn’t need another iPad, but he insisted.

So I went out and found the digital card reader that goes with theiPad so he can now download his deer photos instantly. He lovesit.

I also downloaded the app “Deerhunter” on his iPad. I’m not reallysure if he’s hunting with his gun out there or just sitting aroundplaying on the iPad and hunting deer that way.

But back to the cameras. He kept going out to the hunting club fora week or so before he hit the mother-load, and captured on hiscamera a monster of a deer. We counted at least 16 points on itsrack and someone said it would probably score more than 180 on theBoone and Crockett scale. I guess that’s good since everyone whosees the deer gets really excited and jittery.

Either way, he now has several of his hunting club memberssalivating to harvest the big deer. I told Dennis that big deerhasn’t lived as long as it has by being stupid. Good luck with thehunting.

He won’t tell anyone where it is either. He’s keeping it awell-guarded secret. He is even hunting in other areas, just so noone gets wise to its location.

If you know Dennis, then you probably know he has a hard timesitting still for any length of time. That’s probably the realreason why he hasn’t killed a deer.

Maybe with the prospect of the big deer he’ll take his time and bea little more patient.

     Nah. He’s Dennis.

    And how was your week?
