    Funeral services for Alice M. Fields Calcote, ofBrookhaven, are noon on Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. James M.B.Church, with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. The Rev. LarryJointer will be officiating. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.

    Visitation is Friday from noon until 5 p.m. at the funeral home andfamily hour is Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon at the church.

    Mrs. Calcote, 75, died Dec. 6, 2011, at her home after a courageousbattle with cancer. She was born in Lincoln County on July 12,1936, to Alvie Fields and Asierleen Williams Henderson.

    She was united in marriage to the late Jessie J. Calcote on July17, 1966. Their 35-year union was blessed with one daughter. Shewas a member of St. James M.B. Church where she attended until herhealth failed.

    Despite years of battle with illness, Alice was a very fun andupbeat person to be around. One of her daily highlights includedgoing to visit and laugh with employees at various stores in town.Her favorite hobbies included fishing, cooking, planting flowersand day trips with her daughter. She had a special love for thechildren of the neighborhood and her parakeets. Most of all, shetreasured simply being known as “Mama Alice” to her godchildren andfriends that knew and loved her.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and a brother,Charlie Bruce Fields.

    She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Beverly D. Calcote,of Brookhaven; sister, Mazie F. Downs, of Bowie, Md.; a brother,Jerome Fields and wife, Twandy, of Summit; stepsisters, MarietteFields, Robin Fields and Salinda Hardy and husband, The Rev.Patrick Hardy, of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews,relatives and friends.
