Funeral services for James Kittrell Cox, ofBrookhaven, are noon on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Faith PresbyterianChurch in Brookhaven, with burial in Pleasant Grove UnitedMethodist Church Cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is incharge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon at the church.

    Mr. Cox, 89, died Dec. 10, 2011, at his home. He was born inCarroll County on Sept. 16, 1922, to R.E. Cox and AdaBrisendine.

    He served in the United States Army where he achieved the rank ofMaster Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Starand the Silver Star for his service in the European-African andMiddle Eastern Campaign.

    Mr. Cox and his family moved to Brookhaven in 1956, as a salesrepresentative for Nabisco Foods where he retired after 38 years.He was a member and founding Elder of Faith Presbyterian Churchwhere he also served as Sunday School Superintendent. His otherservices to the community included Boy Scout Troop Leader, EveningLions Club, Past President of MSRDA and Trustee and Officer of theBrookhaven Military Museum.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; Kathleen Caito, of Ohio;and Virginia Wilmore, of Texas.

    Survivors are his wife, Louise Calcote Cox; sons, James K. Cox Jr.and wife, Margie, of Hattiesburg, Joe C. Cox and wife, Angie, ofBrookhaven, and Jerry M. Cox and wife, Barbie, of Lawrence County;brother, Roy Cox, of Texas; sisters, Ruth Rossi, of Ohio, andEloise Ellis, of Mississippi; and five grandchildren, Jessica CoxHarvey and husband, Caleb, Wade Cox, Christopher Cox, Claire Coxand Alison Cox.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PalmerHome for Children and African Bible College.
