BA boys blast Oak Forest

    The Cougars of Brookhaven Academy knocked off some holidayrust as they managed to exterminate the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets69-39 Tuesday night in BA’s Holiday Invitational tournament at JohnR. Gray Gymnasium.

    In other boys’ results, the Trinity Saints knocked off Riverdale47-44, Parklane edged East Rankin 49-47, Bowling Green destroyedSilliman 63-37 and Trinity overpowered Porter’s Chapel 50-43.

    Tournament action continues today with four boys’ games. In theconsolation side, East Rankin battles Riverdale at 12:15 p.m. andOak Forest tangles with Silliman at 2:45.

    In the winner’s bracket, Parklane entertains Trinity at 5:15 p.m.Brookhaven Academy hosts Bowling Green at 7:45.

Brook Acad. 69, O. Forest39

    The Cougars (11-1, 1-0) came out a little sluggish in the firstquarter, but rolled past the Jackets and captured the opening roundof the tournament. They led 42-21 at halftime.

    Senior guard Brock Smith boasted a tournament-high double-double tolead the Cougars offense with 28 points and 12 rebounds. BrennanMiller nailed 12 points.

    “We looked really rusty at the beginning,” said BA coach DaleWatts. “The guys managed to overcome the shaky start to cometogether and play as a team. Overall, I was really pleased withtheir effort, but we still have a lot of work to do to getbetter.”

    Trent Burns was the offensive leader for the Jackets with 13points.

Trinity 47, Riverdale44

    Tanner Cage pumped in a game-high 14 points to lead the Saints.Trae McKenzie contributed 10 points

    Riverdale had two players score in double figures as Blake Wrenprovided 14 points. Matt Warren added 10 points.

Parklane 49, East Rankin47

    Spencer Remley sparked the Pioneers with a team-high 15 points.

    Jacob Weldon was the offensive leader for East Rankin with 11points.

B. Green 63, Silliman37

    The Bucs were led in scoring by two players in double figures.Grant Ball scored a game-high 18 points. Austin Knight contributed10 points.

    Riley Sones was the top scorer for the Wildcats with 9 points.

Trinity 50, Porter’s Chapel43

    The Saints were successful in their second game of the day as threeplayers reached double figures. Cage sparked Trinity with 12points. Trae McKenzie and Garrett Vinson provided 10 pointsapiece.

    Ted Brisco was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 17 points.P.J. Lassiter added 11 points.
