Teen killed in morning accident

A 17-year-old Bogue Chitto girl died following a late morningaccident Saturday at the intersection of Highways 84 and 583,authorities said.

Helen Grice was pronounced dead around 2 p.m. at King’sDaughters Medical Center following the accident that happenedaround 11:45 a.m. Saturday, said Lincoln County Deputy Coroner JohnRiggs.

Grice was a passenger in a pickup truck that was struck on thepassenger’s side by an eastbound vehicle as the truck was crossingHighway 84.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said the truck was drivenby Jerry Fairburn, 18, of Tylertown. The southbound truck wascrossing Highway 84 from County Farm Road toward Highway 583 whenit was hit by a 1996 Dodge, driven by James Steuerwald, 75, ofBrookhaven.

Henderson said a 16-year-old juvenile, whom he declined toidentify because of her age, was also in the pickup truck. Riggssaid others involved in the accident were taken to KDMC, where theywere treated and released.

Funeral arrangements for Grice are being handled by RiverwoodFamily Funeral Service, said Coroner Clay McMorris.
