BOGUE CHITTO – The West Lincoln Bears andLady Bears thumped the Bogue Chitto Bobcats Friday night in Region7-1A action at R.L. “Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium.

    In the girls’ game, the Lady Bears knocked off the Lady Cats54-43.

    In boys’ action, the Bears showed off their offensive power as theycrushed the Bobcats 93-43.

    West Lincoln resumes action Tuesday when they travel to Piney Woodsto battle the Tornadoes for a pivotal region test. The girls tipoff at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

    Bogue Chitto returns to action Tuesday as they host the St.Aloysius Flashes. Game time is at 6 p.m. for the girls’ game,followed by the boys.

    Basketball fans flocked to witness round two of this heavyweightbout between the two young Bogue Chitto and West Lincolnsquads.

    The Lady Bears (4-13, 3-2) managed to take control of the game asthey outscored the Lady Cats 40-27 in three quarters of action.Bogue Chitto (10-8, 2-2) roared back in the fourth but came upshort.

    West Lincoln had three players to reach double figures. TamashaBuckley pumped in a team-high 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.Junior forward Katie Hester contributed 14 points. Marisa Pruskidrained 13 points, while collecting 3 rebounds, 4 steals and 4assists. Beth Montgomery was the leader on the boards with 16rebounds.

    “The girls shot the ball really well tonight,” said West Lincolncoach Lane Young. “They worked hard to control the tempo of thegame. Bogue Chitto is a good team, but they missed a lot of shotsthey normally make.”

    Bogue Chitto was led in scoring by junior guard Adrienne Wallacewith a game-high 21 points. Earlnesheia Dillon directed the LadyCats on the boards with 7 rebounds.

    “We were not ready to play,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Weallowed ourselves to get sucked into playing at West Lincoln’s pacein the first half.

    “West Lincoln shot the ball really well from the 3-point line andfree throw line,” continued Terrell. “My girls fought hard in thefourth to bring it back to 8-points, but we waited too late to turnit on.”

    Terrell’s team trailed 28-17 at halftime.

    The Bears (16-3, 4-1) came out and exploded in the first quarter tograb a 36-5 advantage and coast to the finish line.

    Junior power forward Lucas Burris directed the charge with ateam-high double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jared Casechipped in 17 points and 6 assists. Senior De Price contributed 14points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

    “Our pressure from the start of the game set the tone early,” saidYoung. “We managed to create some easy transition baskets off ofBogue Chitto’s turnovers.

    “It was great to give everyone some playing time, continued Young.”Now, we must rest up and prepare for a tough test at Piney WoodsTuesday.”

    Sophomore forward Dennis Rogers paced the Bobcats (5-12, 1-3) witha team-high 22 points. Jeremiah Perkins was the leader on theboards with 6 rebounds.

    BC boys head coach Jimmie Butler said, “Coach Lane Young does areally great job preparing his players.”

    In JV action, Bogue Chitto captured their first win in theiropening debut with 32-21 victory over West Lincoln.

    Eighth grader Zariah Matthews, fresh from a Thursday night jr. highconference championship loss to Loyd Star, pumped in 17 points tolead the Lady Cats.

    West Lincoln was led by freshman guard Micah Redd’s 9 points.
