Co-Lin splits with Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves escapedwith a 59-53 South Division win over the Mississippi Gulf CoastLady Bulldogs Thursday.

    The Lady Wolves improve to 11-3 overall and remain undefeated inthe South Division at 4-0. Gulf Coast falls to 8-6 overall and 2-2in the division.

    In men’s action, the Bulldogs’ inside game proved to be too much asthey took a 67-58 South Division win over the Wolfpack.

    Co-Lin falls to 5-9 overall, 0-4 in the South Division. Gulf Coastimproves to 13-2, 4-0 in the division.

    Co-Lin resumes action on Thursday, Jan. 26, when they host the EastCentral Community College. Women tip off is 6 p.m., followed by themen at 8.

    The Lady Wolves led 31-28 at halftime and led by as many as 12 inthe second half. But the Lady Bulldogs mounted a rally and pulledto within 4 at 57-53 on a Yasmine Nelson basket. Jasmine Belton hittwo free throws with 12 seconds remaining to seal the game for theLady Wolves, 59-53.

    Co-Lin shot 42 percent (25-of-60) from the floor.

    Keosha Bradley pumped in a game-high 17 points and made 4 steals tolead Co-Lin. Chanta Poole chipped in 12 points. Jasmine James added10 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. Jasmine Belton added 7rebounds.

    For Gulf Coast, Ricille Davis posted a double-double with 16 pointsand 10 rebounds. Nelson added 14 points.

Gulf Coast 67, Co-Lin58

    Gulf Coast’s front line of Darius Forrest, Ice Asortse and AngelMatias dominated the paint outscoring the Wolves 44-12 andoutrebounded Co-Lin 45-21. The Bulldogs shot 41 percent (14-of-34)from the field in the first half and a blistering 67 percent(12-of-18) in the second half, ending with 50 percent for thegame.

    The Wolves trailed 35-32 at halftime and were down by as many as 11with 15:51 remaining. Co-Lin would rally as freshman Jay Casenailed a 3-pointer to pull the Wolves within 57-52 with 5:07 leftin the game. But the rally fell short as Gulf Coast would hit freethrows in the final two minutes of the game.

    Case led the Wolves with 19 points, including 5 treys. AnthonyDavis had 13 points followed by Joseph Cunningham with 10.LeDarious Davis, Anthony Davis, Fred Fairman, and Maurice Williamshad 4 rebounds apiece. Jake Reed dished out 3 assists.

    Matias led three Gulf Coast players in double figures with 19points and 10 rebounds. Forrest had 13 points followed by Asortsewith 12 points and 12 rebounds.
