Fifty-Plus Choral program honors club veterans
The Wesson High School Chorus, directed by Daphne Johnson, presented an inspiring program at the February meeting of the Area Fifty-Plus Club at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
The musical selections were about the flag and our wonderful country where we can be free because of those who served and serve to give us this right.
Selections like “The Home of the Brave,” “There She Stands,” “Sing the Stars and Stripes,” “This is My Country,” and “This Land is Your Land” led to the powerful conclusion of the program.
Fifty-Plus veterans stood as the chorus sang “I Salute you.” Club members stood with the veterans for “The Star Spangled Banner.” The tears observed on the faces of many and the applause testified to the impact of this special patriotic moment.
Crystal Stringer, youth director at Sylvarena Baptist Church, presented the devotional message based on Luke 5:2-5.
Patsy Warren, club president, welcomed new members and guests to the meeting: Mearle Hux, Jane Spruill , Tabitha Johnson, Barbara Mason, Kate Jones, Elmer Fuller, Crystal Stringer, Beverly Hurst, Joyce Rials , Frances Granger and Frances Stokes .
Warren announced after the inspiring program, challenging devotion, excellent food and warm fellowship that she was pleased to have 81 attending the February meeting.
She noted the earlier meeting date for the March meeting. Because of spring break the next meeting will be on Thursday, March 8, in the Anderson Building. Mark your new calendars for the meeting, which begins at 10:45. Come early so you will have time to visit with friends.
