A Lincoln County man was shot multiple times early Sunday after an incident with another man on South First Street in Brookhaven, authorities said.
Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said the call came in at 12:15 a.m. Sunday with a report of shots being fired in the vacant parking lot next to the G Store.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim, Danley ‘Tim’ Smith, 38, of 2134 Heucks Retreat Road, had been transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center by private vehicle.
Officers then went to the hospital and found Smith had been shot multiple times. Police were able to speak briefly with the victim at the hospital, where they were able to get information on the identity of the alleged shooter.
Smith has since been transferred to Jackson.
Kenny E. Besst Jr., 28, of 215 Lumber St., was arrested just after 9 a.m. Sunday and charged with aggravated assault. He remains in jail.
Henderson said the shooting was the result of an altercation between the two men. The exact cause of the shooting is unclear at this point.
“Detectives are interviewing witnesses today about the shooting,” said Henderson Tuesday morning. “It’s an ongoing investigation at this time.”
