The weather trend continued Tuesday as the area saw another line of rain and thunderstorms come through.

The storms knocked out power to many in Southwest Mississippi and produced 1.53 inches of rainfall, according to a measurement taken at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said he wasn’t aware of any damage from yesterday’s storms.

“We had a couple trees down around Old Red Star partially blocking the road, but no house damage that I’m aware of,” he said.

Customer Accounts Manager Kenny Goza with Entergy said there are still some customers without power as of this morning.

“At 9:30 a.m., we had 300 customers without power scattered throughout Lincoln County,” said Goza. “We have six contract crews in here helping us. We hope to have all the service restored by about 8 p.m.”

Goza said the peak number of customers without power Tuesday night was around 900 close to 9 p.m. due to downed wires.

“We mostly had wires down due to trees falling on them, but I’m not aware of any poles down,” he said.

Member Services Director Lucy Shell with Magnolia Electric said no damage had been reported as of Wednesday morning, but outages did occur yesterday and overnight.

“There were about 1,300 outages through the night across our coverage area in Southwest Mississippi,” said Shell. “Most were before midnight and only about 50 outages remained after midnight.”

She said all power had been restored by this morning.

Public Relations Director Azalea Knight with Southwest Electric Power Association said 112 customers were without power late yesterday and last night, but there were just a few scattered customers without power as of this morning.

“On Monday, we lost quite a few poles with the weather, but all of those have been repaired or replaced,” said Knight. “Most of the damage this week has been falling trees and limbs taking the lines down and resulting in power outages.”
