Lady Jackets escape Wesson

WESSON – The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets edged the Wesson Lady Cobras 5-4 to secure back-to-back Region 7-2A titles in softball action Monday night.
“This was a great game,” said Enterprise first-year coach Ashley Jones. “Our girls came ready to play against a good team. Both schools played hard.
“I’ m extremely proud of the girls’ efforts,” added Jones. “I would also like to thank the fans for coming to a big game and giving their support.”
The Lady Jackets (13-7, 7-1) resume action Thursday, hosting their Lincoln County rivals, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
The Lady Cobras (16-6, 6-2) will have the rest of the week off to prepare for the opening round of the MHSAA State 2A playoffs. Wesson will battle the Union Lady Yellowjackets Friday. The locations and times have not been set.

Softball fans gathered to witness this huge district championship matchup. The Lady Jackets and Lady Cobras showcased their talents in a defensive battle.
Hannah Moak dominated the pitching circle for Enterprise with nine strikeouts and two walks. Makenzie Rials suffered the setback for Wesson with four strikeouts and no walks.
Enterprise quickly cashed in a run in the first inning to set the tone and added another run in the fourth to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wesson’s bats started to come alive as they trimmed the Lady Jackets lead to 2-1.
In the top of the seventh, Enterprise answered Wesson’s rally with three runs to increase their lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Wesson surged back with three runs to and trailed 5-4. Wesson left the tying run on second base.
Samantha Stuart and Kristen Jergins were the offensive leaders for the Lady Jackets with two singles apiece. Hannah Kirkfield and Kelsey Hux ripped a double. Hitting safely were Haley Brazell and Taylor Nelson.
Abbey Smith and Sarah Robinson directed the Lady Cobras’ offense with a double and a single apiece. Macie McQuage provided two singles. Bailey Middleton hit a single.
“Hannah Moak dominated the game for Enterprise,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “The girls fought hard to stay in the game, but fell short at the end.
“We have got to do a better job hitting the ball,” continued Johnson. “Now we must regroup and get ready for the playoffs.”
In JV action, Wesson outlasted Enterprise for a 7-5 victory.
Mary Beth Munn tossed the win for the Lady Cobras with two strikeouts and four walks. Alex Rae Smith absorbed the setback for Enterprise with three strikeouts and nine walks.
Ryleigh Inabnet paced Wesson’s offense with a double. Hailey Chassion hit safely.
Makenzie Richardson led the Lady Jackets with a double. Kinsey Dahlin and Courtney Greer provided a single apiece.
