Funeral services for Robert Newman Tompkins, of Edwards, are 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, with burial in Bethesda Cemetery in Hinds County. The Rev. Marvin Curtis will officiate.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Tompkins, 78, died April 16, 2012, at River Region Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Hinds County. He retired as an investigator for the Mississippi State Board of Health. Mr. Tompkins was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Warrenton Independent Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Aline Puckett Tompkins; a daughter, Joni Tompkins McMillin; a son, Robert Daniel “Bob” Tompkins; brothers, Earl Tompkins Jr. and Cecil Archie Tompkins; sister, Joyce Tompkins Barnett; granddaughter, April Tompkins Roskowski; and great-granddaughter, Kara Leigh Darby.
Survivors are his wife, Aillene Case Tompkins; sons, Robert Gregory Tompkins, of Wesson, Timothy Clay Tompkins, of Vicksburg, and Russ Noel Carraway, of Clinton; sisters, Emma Sue McNair, of Raymond, and Alma Dean Brantley, of Utica; brother, John M. Tompkins, of Edwards; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lance Tompkins, Thad Greer, Bill Walker, David Thomae, Mark Smith and Danny Smith.
