The Lincoln County School Board put some of the finishing touches on the 2011-2012 school year during their Monday meeting.
Superintendent Terry Brister and the board recognized the parents and teachers of the year along with the retirees.
Parents of the year were Shannon Bailey for Bogue Chitto, C.J. Jones III of Enterprise, Pam Wyant of Loyd Star and Brad Rushing of West Lincoln. Jones was chosen as countywide Parent of the Year.
Those retiring were Cheryl Barrett, Donna Dixon, Pam French, Linda Gayten, Don Presley, Rebecca Smith and Dorothy Sutton.
Brister commended the retirees for what they’ve done in their time with the school system.
“You’re not going to get enough for what you’ve done here,” he said. “Things have changed so much over time and it’s been hectic, demanding and difficult.”
Brister then reiterated his thanks for the retirees.
“I appreciate what you’ve done in your time here and thank you for what you’ve done for Lincoln County,” he said.
Teachers of the Year were Mary Adams of Bogue Chitto Attendance Center, Brittany Alexander of Enterprise Attendance Center, Jessica Franklin of Loyd Star Attendance Center, and Kellee Smith of West Lincoln Attendance Center. Franklin was chosen as Teacher of the Year for the county.
In other school board news, Brister said Lincoln County schools have been busy testing, and student-athletes are finishing up their seasons.
He also said a water leak at Bogue Chitto school has been found.
“It’s been leaking for a couple years,” Brister said. “It has cost us a good deal of money, but it will be fixed.”
