Memorial services for John Phipps, of Bridgeport, Texas, are 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Brookhaven. Jones Family Funeral Home in Texas is in charge of arrangements.

     Mr. Phipps, 69, died May 8, 2012, in Decatur, Texas. He was born in Lincoln County on April 22, 1943, to Leona Virginia Phipps.

     He spent his early years in Brookhaven. He was a truck driver.

     Preceding him in death were his mother; brothers, David Bales and Zachary Bales; and daughter, Keitha Bonds.

     Survivors are Pat Posey Phipps, of Bridgeport, Texas; sons, John Phipps, Jerry Phipps and Joe Phipps; daughters, Christy Hartsell and Jodye Brown; grandchildren, Heather and Halie Phipps, Jessica and Josh Hartsell, and Peyton, Tatum and Laramie Brown; brothers, James Bales and wife, Sarah, and Freddie Bales; sisters, Dorothy Wallace and husband, Gene, Mary McHaffey and husband, Fred, Katherine Furr and husband Preston, Paulette Martin and husband, Teddy, and Jeanette Whiddon and husband, Sammy; sister-in-law, Dianne Bales; and numerous nieces and nephews.
