In a surprise announcement Wednesday morning, Brookhaven School District Superintendent Dr. Lisa Karmacharya named David Martin principal of Brookhaven High School and Janee Harrison principal of Brookhaven Elementary School.

     Both currently hold assistant principal positions, Martin at North Pike Middle School and Harrison at Lipsey Middle School in Brookhaven.

     Current BHS principal Jay Smith resigned to take a job as assistant superintendent of the North Pike School District and BES Principal Delores Gearing is retiring.

     Martin and Harrison will officially begin their new jobs July 1.

     Brookhaven School District board members approved Karmacharya’s recommendations for the posts Wednesday morning in a vote held by telephone.
