James L. ‘Mac’ McCaffrey Sr.

Funeral services for James L. “Mac” McCaffrey Sr., of Bogue Chitto, were 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

     Mr. McCaffrey, 84, went to be with his precious Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family on May 26, 2012. He was born on April 25, 1928, to Freddie and Lottie Mae Roberts McCaffrey.

     He was a retired oil field worker and formerly worked at Wal-Mart. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. A man of great faith, he lived his life following Christ and serving others. He faithfully taught Sunday School for many years at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he served as an active deacon for 50 years. He loved his church and his church family. Mr. McCaffrey was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Helen Stubbs, Dorothy Coke and Idell Whittington; and brother, Billy Joe McCaffrey.

     Survivors are his faithful and dedicated wife of 62 years, Delora Jackson McCaffrey, of Bogue Chitto; daughter, Janie M. West and husband, Milton, of Brookhaven; sons, James Loyd McCaffrey Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Bogue Chitto, Greg McCaffrey and wife, Regina, of Brookhaven, and the Rev. Timothy McCaffrey and wife, Naomi, of Monticello; brother, Claude McCaffrey, of Bogue Chitto; sisters, Earlene Smith and Diane Burnett, both of Brookhaven, and Bobbie Jean Burnett, of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Ruth and Brad Allen, of Brookhaven, Jon and Hannah West, of Atlanta, David and Jennifer West and Rachel and Aaron Jones, all of Jackson, Chris and Brandi McCaffrey, of Ruth, James and Samantha McCaffrey, of Bastrop, La., Erin McCaffrey and Ryan McCaffrey, both of Brookhaven, Josh McCaffrey and wife, Allison, of Clinton, Jordan McCaffrey and Sarah McCaffrey, both of Monticello; 14 great-grandchildren; and beloved friend, Opea.
