Editor’s note: Today, The DAILY LEADER continues publication of valedictorian and salutatorian speeches from recent graduation ceremonies at local schools. Today’s address is from Bogue Chitto Attendance Center Salutatorian Mattie Rials.

On behalf of the class of 2012, I would like to welcome you to our graduation. Many people think that this is the end. Yet, it is just the beginning.

On our journey, many obstacles were placed in front of us. With what we have learned, we are prepared for the new adventure that waits for us. While some will be entering the work force and some will go on to college, we are not alone. We, as a class, will continue to support each other.

I, for one, could not be here tonight without reflecting on my grandfather. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of a strong work ethic. He knew to achieve great accomplishments, one must work hard and never give up; he would be proud to know that I did just that.

Tonight as we are here as the senior class of 2012, know that all of our hard work has paid off. To our parents, teachers and administrators, we would like to thank you. The support that you have provided to us over the last 13 years has been a blessing. Without all of your love and support, we could not have made it this far. Parents always have dreams for their children; we hope that we fulfill all the dreams you have for us.

To my fellow graduates, I would like to leave you with this: As we go our separate ways, remember Deuteronomy 3:16 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Thank you for your attention. May God continue to bless the class of 2012.
