George Ivy Graves

George Ivy Graves, a longtime resident of Brookhaven, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 31, from noon until 2 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.  A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. immediately following the visitation.  Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

     Mr. Graves was born on Nov. 8, 1947 in Hollandale. He moved to Brookhaven in 1950 and graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1965. He attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

     George worked for many years as a Security Guard at Day Detectives and spent several years as the Pro Shop Manager at Brookhaven Country Club.

     He was an avid fan of bowling and billiards and was considered to be a proficient player of both.

     George was a member of Jackson Street Methodist Church.

     He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Charlotte Ivy Graves and his father, Homer Graves.

     George is survived by his sister, Claudia Graves Smith and husband Richard of Brookhaven and his brother, John Wesley Graves and wife Sheila of McComb; nieces, Emily Graves Wicker and husband Kenneth of McComb, Natalie Smith Lawson and husband Brad of Tallahassee, Fla., Julie Smith Basel and husband Tim of Madison, and Melissa Smith Coleman and husband Nick of Madison; nephews, John Graves III and wife Amber of Ocean Springs, and Matthew Graves and wife Tisa of Bossier City, La.
