Funeral services for Rivers Elwood Sutton, of Lake Arthur, La., formerly of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service, with burial in Sutton Cemetery. The Rev. Willie Welch and the Rev. Ronnie Robinson will officiate.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Sutton, 80, died Aug. 8, 2012, in Jennings, La. He was born in Brookhaven on May 7, 1932, to James and Lavinia Sutton.
He was a boilermaker and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Mr. Sutton was an outstanding football player for Brookhaven and Co-Lin. He was an avid deer hunter, belonging to Big Rack Hunting Club in Butler County, Ala. He was a devoted fisherman, catching a 109 lb. catfish in the Mississippi River. Mr. Sutton was a very outgoing person and loved being with family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Tommy Sutton; and daughter, Jenny Lyn Bowman.
Survivors are his wife, Georgia Harrison Sutton; daughter, Deborah Blunt, of Fostic, Mo.; stepdaughters, Becky Gauthier, of Lake Arthur, La., and Christy Barlow, of Sulfur, La.; brothers, Don Sutton, James Sutton, Richard Sutton, Ronnie Sutton and David Sutton; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
