Memorial services for James P. Harrington Jr., of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive.

     Visitation is Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Mr. Harrington, 71, died Aug. 16, 2012, at Haven Hall Health Care Center. He was born in Brookhaven on Dec. 26, 1940, to James P. and Virginia Potts Harrington.

     Jimmy was a popular member of Brookhaven High School Class of 1959. He served in his U.S. Army and the Air Force Reserve. He was a member of Springs of Praise World Outreach Center in Crystal Springs. He had a career in sales with Kem Chemical and other companies. His ministry work included having a men’s prayer group and promoting a men’s fellowship at church. Jimmy found fulfillment in engaging in conversation and making people laugh, enjoying his family, caring for cats and dogs and loving the Lord.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; and sisters, Geraldine Heirs, Peggy Sims and Lewise Peets.

     Survivors are his wife, Betty McMullen Harrington and her grandson, Cody Barrett Jr. of Brookhaven; son, Trey; nieces and nephew, Sue Peets, Lynda Posey, Jennifer Peets, Virginia Sims and Harry Sims; and beloved cousins, Katherine Roberts Sharpe, Nancy Potts Youngblood and Stuart Spann Jr.

     His service will be led by his longtime pastor, Darrel Blankenship, of Springs of Praise World Outreach Center. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Allred, Cody Barrett Jr., John Dunn, Mike Givens, John Parnell, Jimmy Perkins and Mickey Sandifer.
