BOGUE CHITTO – Junior quarterback Brock Roberts completed 9 passes on 14 attempts to collect 172 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 107 yards on 6 carries for two touchdowns as the Bogue Chitto Bobcats exterminated the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 39-0 in the annual Black Out Bowl Friday night on Troy Smith Field. The Bobcats rolled up 543 yards on offense.
“This was a tough, hard-fought game,” said BC coach Gareth Sartin. “Enterprise came ready to play. Coach (Brooks) Burns is doing a great job with them over there.
“I was very please with our efforts offensively,” continued Sartin. “We managed to execute our running and passing plays really well. Defensively, we made the big plays needed to get the shutout.”
Bogue Chitto (2-0) came out of the gates on a mission to set the tone. The Bobcats scored on twice in the first quarter. On defense, BC held the Jackets to a total of just 141 yards for the game.
Roberts was the first to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard, when he plowed through for a 2-yard rushing touchdown with 8:57 remaining.
In BC’s second scoring drive, Roberts hooked up with Brandon Wells for a 6-yard touchdown strike with 3:54 left. Cameron Price was three-of-four on extra points for the night.
In the second quarter, Roberts continued BC’s rage as he connected with Germie Martin for 32, and 16-yard touchdown as time expired. He also sprinted 58 yards for another touchdown at the 2:25 mark.
In the second half, both teams played hard in the tough, physical battle.
James Blackwell scored the Bobcats’ final points of the game in the third quarter. He scrambled for a 11-yard TD with 10:50 remaining.
“Overall, we are glad to get the win,” stated Sartin. “We still have a lot of improvement to work on both offensively and defensively. We also need to cut out our penalties.”
Sartin’s team was penalized 17 times for 149 yards.
Defensively, Jermaine Blackwell led BC with 11 tackles. Roberts contributed 10 stops. James and Jeremy Blackwell each had 9 tackles.
Martin and Roberts recovered a fumble apiece.
Enterprise (0-2) was led on defense by Joseph Grice and Matt Greer with 10 tackles. Kenyon Frazier provided 8 stops.
Justin LaCompte and Jackson Cole recovered a fumble for the Jackets.
Offensively, Wells supported Bogue Chitto with 5 carries for 65 yards and caught 3 passes for 66 yards. Martin led all receivers with 4 catches for 90 yards.
Tomas Newman was the offensive leader for the Jackets with 14 carries for 77 yards. Dylan Smith contributed 13 rushes for 39 yards.
“We played really well for 31/2 quarters with intense effort,” said Enterprise coach Brooks Burns. Three turnovers in the first three minutes of the first quarter killed us from the start.”
“Overall, I was proud of the guys effort,” continued Burns. “They did not give up and kept on playing hard. Hats off to Bogue Chitto. They have an excellent team. I believe No. 11 (James Blackwell) is their best player on the team.”
Bogue Chitto travels Flowood to battle the Hartfield Academy Hawks, formerly known as the University Christian Flames, for their first Region 4-1A test. Enterprise (0-2) hosts county rival West Lincoln Friday.
