Funeral services for Charles R. Fortson Sr., of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service, with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

     Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Mr. Fortson, 72, died Sept. 2, 2012, in Bossier, La. He was born in Louisiana on Jan. 1, 1940, to Herbert Fortson Sr. and Estelle Hightower Fortson.

     He was retired from the oil field and was a Navy Radioman PO 2nd. He served in the U.S. Navy from November of 1961 to March of 1966. Mr. Fortson was a Jehovah’s Witness.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Herbert Fortson Jr. and Melvin Fortson; sister, Wynonna Norman; granddaughter, Amber Fortson; and grandson, Markus Fortson.

     Survivors are his wife, Juanita M. Fortson; sons, Charles R. Fortson Jr., Travis L. Fortson and Timothy J. Fortson; daughters, Patricia M. Sweet, Vikki R. Westmoreland and Virginia E. Bain; brothers, Richard Fortson and Author Fortson; sister, Martha Bienzenu; 13 grandchildren, Kayla Fortson, Carley Fortson, Nikki Fortson, Asia Fortson, Jonathan Rodriguez, Jeremy Rodriguez, Jessica Gilmore, Andrew Fortson, Glen Fortson, Turner DeLynn Fortson, Charity Guidry, Cheyenne Guidry and Taylor Guidry; eight great-grandchildren; 18 nephews; and 20 nieces.
