True leadership shown in Wesson pay cut decision

In a display of true community leadership, Wesson leaders are digging into their own pockets help to pay for a town need.
The mayor and board of aldermen last month agreed to accept temporary pay cuts in order to provide more spraying for mosquitoes in hopes of combating the spread of the West Nile virus.
With $200 a month from the mayor and $50 each from the five aldermen, Wesson now has an extra $450 a month to put toward mosquito spraying. That’s a 20 percent monthly reduction for the mayor and 12.5 percent for the aldermen.
The new revenue will more than double the spraying budget at a time when health officials are predicting one of the worst years ever for the West Nile virus.
By their sacrifice, Wesson leaders are paying the way to increase protection for the town against that threat.
