A Lincoln County Jail escapee enjoyed only a few minutes of freedom before he was quickly apprehended a few blocks away from the jail Friday night, said Sheriff Steve Rushing.

     Rushing said Lloyd Wayne Tillman, 32, of 2412 Highway 583, managed to scale more than 15 feet up a pole near a wall around the jail’s recreation yard Friday around 7:30 p.m. Tillman was then able to get through some wire and escaped over the justice court roof.

     Jailers, however, quickly noticed that Tillman was missing and he was caught on Chippewa Street near the railroad tracks a short while later, Rushing said.

     “He was out maybe 20 minutes,” the sheriff said.

     Rushing said efforts, including reinforcing the wire at the top of the jail wall, are being made to prevent future escape occurrences.

     “We’re already taking steps to address it,” the sheriff said.

     As for Tillman, who had been in jail since June 28 on uttering forgery and auto burglary charges, will have another crime added to his list of alleged offenses.

     “He’s now facing escape to go along with his other charges,” Rushing said.
