Funeral services for Dorothy R. Wittig, of Loyd Star Community, are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Sweetwater United Methodist Church in Copiah County, with burial in the church cemetery. Harrigill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

     Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Mrs. Wittig, 84, passed from this life to the next on Nov. 5, 2012, at Haven Hall Health Care Center after a brief illness. She was born in Lincoln County.

     She graduated from Loyd Star High School, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and Syracuse University. She was a career U.S. Air Force officer, serving in Europe, Asia and the United States and retired at the rank of Major. In 1978, she returned to Mississippi and operated her family farm with her husband. She was very active in the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and Lay Leader for Sweetwater United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wittig also earned a Master’s of Divinity degree from Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson and served on the seminary’s Board of Trustees.

     Preceding her in death were her husband, William L. Wittig; mother and father, Ruth Holden Assink and George H. Assink; and two brothers, Noel H. Assink and Albert Assink.

     Survivors are her nephews and nieces, Terence N. Assink, of Franklin, Tenn., Michael L. Assink, of Loyd Star, Kathy Assink Dicharry, of Cabool, Mo., Randall W. Assink, of Ridgeland, and Rebecca Assink Hennington, of Mumbai, India; grand-nephews and nieces, Michael Assink, Emily Assink Haley, Joseph Assink, William Assink, Seth Assink, Stephen Assink, Josiah Dicharry, Paul Dicharry, Miriam Dicharry, Lorretta Dicharry, Kyle Hennington and Connor Hennington; and four great-grand-nephews and nieces, Isaac, Catherine, Presley and Piper Assink.

     The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kindness and care provided by the staff of Haven Hall Health Care Center.

     Donations to the Wesley Foundation at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson would be appreciated.
