Herring’s 15 points spark BHS girls over Tylertown

TYLERTOWN – A 15-point performance by Diamond Herring directed the Brookhaven Lady Panthers to a 59-42 Tuesday night triumph against Tylertown’s Lady Chiefs. Christen Benson chipped in 11 points.
In the varsity boys game, Tylertown defeated the Panthers 55-50.
Brookhaven visits West Lincoln Friday, starting with the varsity girls at 6 p.m.
The Lady Panthers (11-5) got 9 rebounds from senior center Archea Brotherns. Benson had 4 assists and 9 steals. BHS committed 29 turnovers.
Coach Freda Craft’s girls hustled to a 29-17 halftime lead over Tylertown.
The Lady Chiefs got 11 points from Daidai Andrews.
The Panthers (8-8) got a game-high 20 points from Khalil Newton, plus 5 rebounds. Martavious Brooks made 5 assists.
Ole Brook coach Preston Wilson said three of his players, including two starters,missed the game. They were suspended for disciplinary reasons.
Sixteen points by Jemarrion McElLveen and 15 by Xavion Dillon carried Coach Jeremy Harrell’s Chiefs to victory. They led 24-22 at halftime.
