The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets are in the hunt for the second, third or fourth seed in the girls’ race in the Region 7-2A.

     The Jackets are young and rebuilding in the boys division. They hope to pull some upsets.

     The other teams in the Class 7-2A race are Wesson, Loyd Star, Amite County, East Marion and Bassfield.

     East Marion will host this year’s region tournament in Columbia, beginning Feb. 12.

     Enterprise returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Jan. 8, to host the Bassfield Yellowjackets.

     The Lady Jackets (10-9, 1-1), coached by Jill Nations, are playing together as a team.

     Senior forward Caroleah Brister is leading the Lady Jackets in scoring. She averages 12.2 points. 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2.5 assists per game.

     Senior center Veonka Sanders is the second leading scorer with 11.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3 steals per game

     Coach Nations said her team’s strong points are the girls’ chemistry. “The girls are working hard and playing as a team. Over the Christmas Holidays, the girls have improved on shooting the ball.”

     The Lady Jackets weakness is unforced turnovers. “They need to stop making unforced turnovers and take care of the ball.”

     Coach Nations picks the region race. “Bassfield is the favorite to win the Region crown. For second, third and fourth place, it will be a tough battle for us, Wesson and East Marion.”

     The Jackets (7-12, 0-2), coached by John Knight, are off to a good start with a young and rebuilding team.

     Juniors Ethan Newman and Forest Scott are the offense leaders for Enterprise averaging 7 points per game. Newman is leading the boards with 7 rebounds per game.

     Coach Knight stated that his team’s strength is to work hard in practices and games to steadily improve.

     The Jackets’ weakness is a lack of depth, speed and experience.

     Coach Knight’s forecast for the boys’ race would lead off with Bassfield as No. 1. “Wesson should clinch No. 2. East Marion and Loyd Star will be the third and fourth seeds.”
