Bassfield too strong for Enterprise teams

Forward Janeesha Booth pumped in 23 points and Mercedes Booth 15 as Bassfield’s Lady Yellowjackets romped to a 72-47 Tuesday night win over the host Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets.

     In the boys game, Bassfield buried Enterprise 65-30, led by Jeffrey Smith and Desmond Hammond with 17 and 10 points respectively. Jamal Peters chipped in 12 points and Ron Logan 10.

     Enterprise visits Loyd Star Friday night, starting with a JV boys game at 5 p.m.

     The EHS Lady Jackets (10-10, 1-2) got 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots from senior center Veonka Sanders. Megan Rippy grabbed 9 rebounds and Caroleah Brister had 6.

     “We had a lot of turnovers but we did a lot better job against their press last night than what we did at Bassfield,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “Bassfield has a very good team.”

     Bassfield roared to a 37-23 halftime lead.

     The EHS Jackets (7-13,0-3) got 12 points and 5 rebounds from Forrest Scott. Ethan Newman had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Coach John Knight’s team as they trailed 36-16 at halftime.

     Region 7-2A leader Bassfield raised its record to 13-1 on the season.
