West Lincoln Bears Hold off Hinds AHS

UTICA – Senior forward Lucas Burris scored  a game-high 25 points and sophomore guard Duane Marshall scored 14 as the West Lincoln Bears held off Hinds AHS 64-63 and claimed a big Region 7-1A Friday night win over the Hinds AHS Bulldogs.

     In the girls game, Hinds AHS romped to a 54-20 win, sparked by Iesha Dixon’s 14 points.

     West Lincoln resumes region play Tuesday night at Natchez Cathedral, starting with a junior varsity boys game at 5 p.m. The varsity girls play at 6, followed by the boys at 7:30.

     The Bears (17-2, 2-0) erased a 33-29 halftime deficit to remain unbeaten in region play. Tamarcus London added 10 points and 4 steals to the triumph.

     On the backboards, Burris and Jared Case each had 7 rebounds. Case also made 6 assists. Marshall had 5 assists.

     “We made some plays to get the lead in the second half and then held on at the end,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We were complacent and satisfied some times and tonight we did it a lot.

     “Our focus must improve and strive for excellence,” Young continued. “At this time of the year we must play at a higher level.”

     The Bulldogs got  13 points form DeAndre Bolton and 12 from Sterling Joiner.

     The Lady Bears (7-11, 1-2) fell behind 27-9 at halftime and never recovered. Six points by Layton Sills led West Lincoln.

JV Girls Results

     Six points by Micah Redd led the Lady Bears to a 22-15 junior varsity victory.
