Underwood commits to W. Virginia

      WESSON – Co-Lin sophomore center Stone Underwood has made a verbal commitment to sign a football scholarship with West Virginia University. Underwood visited the Morgantown campus last weekend and reached his decision to sign with the Mountaineers.,

     “I’m tickled to death for Stone,” said Co-Lin coach Glenn Davis. “He will be ready to go (graduate) in May. I thought coming out of high school, he had a ton of ability.”

     Underwood (6-4, 285) signed with Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond after graduating from Brookhaven and saw playing time with the Lions. He transferred to Co-Lin and moved to center where he earned a starting job, helping the Wolfpack win the MACJC State Championship.

     Andrew Magee, a former Co-Lin player from Magee, currently is working as a defensive secondary coach at West Virginia.

     Dana Holgerson is the head coach at  West Virginia. They Mountaineers finished 7-6 this past season and lost 38-14 to Syracuse in the snow-covered Pinstripe Bowl, played in Yankee Stadium.

     Co-Lin has had several players off its 9-3 squad sign senior college scholarships. Quarterback Chandler Rogers has signed with Arkansas State University. Jerrell Jordan and Terrell Hartsfield are defensive ends who have signed with Cincinnati. Wide receiver  Joe Craig is going to Memphis. Wide receivers Javonte’ Scott to UAB and Marquis Hayes to Southeastern Louisiana.

     Also,  offensive guard Demechery Hickingbottom has signed with Alabama State, and defensive back Brian Isaac with Tennessee-Martin.
