Panthers, Lady Panthers land in 5A state playoffs

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers shut out McComb 3-0 Saturday and Jackson Wingfield 7-0 in Region 6-Class 5A soccer action Friday night at the Hansel King Sportsplex. Taylor Murray, Andie Netherland and Kimberly Smalley each scored one goal for the BHS girls.
The Panthers defeated Wingfield’s boys 4-1 and McComb 4-1.
BHS 3, McComb 0
Shelby Case played goalie in the shutout of McComb. Netherland provided an assist.
BHS 7, Wingfield 0
Four goals by Taylor Murray sparked the victory. Andie Netherland scored twice and Kimberly Smalley had one goal against Wingfield.
On defense, Shelby Case and Danielle Batteast played goal keeper for BHS.
The Lady Panthers (8-7, 2-1), coached by Kevin Bower, are the No. 2 seed behind Pearl. They visit Pascagoula for a 5:30 game in the opening round of the state playoffs.
The Panthers (8-7, 2-1), coached by Anjan Karmacharya, also rank second behind Pearl in the region race. They play Pascagoula at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Recognized on Senior Night were Smalley, Case, Heather Brantley and Vanessa Martinez. Senior boys are Case, Allen, Newton, Culver, and Michael Curtis.

Max Meyer scored twice for the Panthers. Houston Case and Damarius Newton scored singled goals.
Andrew Culver worked as keeper.

Quin Cooper, Noah Allen, Meyer and Case scored against McComb. Culver worked as keeper.
